How fresh is our data
Every number on MTG Scout carries a date. This page states plainly what “current” means for each dataset: how often it refreshes, and the lag baked into the sources themselves.
Refresh rhythm
| Data | Refreshes | What “current” means |
|---|---|---|
| News & announcements | Hourly | Our crawler re-checks sources through the day; items appear within the hour they are published. |
| Card catalog (sets, printings, rulings) | Daily | Follows MTGJSON’s daily build, published around 14:00 UTC. New releases appear here the same day their build includes them. |
| Prices | Daily snapshot | One snapshot per day, like a closing price. Intraday swings appear in the next snapshot; every chart labels its snapshot date. |
| Currency conversion | Daily, business days | Bank of Canada rates; weekends and holidays reuse the last published day. |
| Collection analytics | Nightly | Recomputed from the latest snapshots once the daily pipeline lands, so the charts and the underlying data always agree. |
The one day that isn’t ours
MTGJSON compiles its build from upstream sources once a day. A card released today, or a price that spikes this afternoon, enters their build tomorrow — and reaches every MTGJSON consumer, us included, with it. That day of lag is industry-wide, not a MTG Scout delay: we ingest each build within the hour it publishes, so our lag is exactly the source’s lag, with nothing added on top.
What we do add is certainty: every chart states its as-of date, so “current” always means a date you can check, never a silent approximation.
